ESG as a pillar for environmental awareness
52% of CO2 emissions to date have been produced, so the planet's temperature has varied by around 10ºC in some places, causing concern in the world about the future of our planet and generations. No wonder we are seeing growth in the volume of news, laws and policies related to ESG, sustainability, circular economy.
In 2021, many companies had to create sectors from scratch and update themselves to meet the requirements regarding international standards of positively governance, social and environmental impact, the ESG. This is a market that has been growing steadily and is expected to move over $30tn in 2022 and grow at a rate of 23% per year.
In addition, this awareness has been increasing not only among companies, but also for the final consumer. We see people all over the world looking for more sustainable solutions and habits. A survey carried out by Fiep reveals that 70% of people are willing to pay more for a sustainable solution, another survey carried out with young people between 15 and 24 years old shows that the concern among young people is unanimous, 98% of the people interviewed are concerned about the problem of climate changes.
The Crypto community representing Blockchain has also realized that this is a serious problem and that the technology can help bring about a new wave of companies that have this commitment to the health of the planet and the beings that live on it. Thus arises the term ReFi, regenerative finance, a new wave of digital assets aimed at social and environmental impact.
The Soil Problem
To fully understand the problem of climate change, it is necessary to understand its relationship with soil productivity. Productive soils are capable of providing vegetation, which in turn absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere.
In the case of Brazil, the country moved from 14th to 4th position because today 80% of its pollution is caused by soil handling, where 55% is due to deforestation, in addition to another 25% caused by soil degradation in livestock.
In addition, degraded soils can contaminate water and carry diseases that can harm vegetation, animals and people in the region, in addition to not producing crops with good productivity. In most parts of the world, the soil is degraded by heavy metals such as zinc, lead, nickel and cadmium from activities such as livestock, mining, energy production, among others.
When looking at the health of soils around the world, the picture is not good. Once again, Brazil stands out for the high level of degradation of the native soil, leaving very few intact areas. If it is correlated with the global warming map presented a little above, it can be seen that there is a relationship between degraded soil and greater temperature variation.
Keeping this in mind, Kanna proposes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and revitalize degraded soils through the planting of hemp, in a transparent and auditable operation through blockchain technology.
